Barbara A. Susman has recently spoken on U.S.-Latin American trade issues and on selected U.S. immigration law issues for the Lima Bar Association in Lima, Peru, where she also attended the Regional Americas Conference of the American Chambers of Commerce. Her discussion and Q&A were conducted completely in Spanish. (She is also fluent in Portuguese and French). Ms. Susman was also a featured panelist in Marseille, France in an International Conference, as well as invited to speak locally at National Lewis University in Chicago on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Ms. Susman was also invited to speak at the American Immigration Lawyers 1998 Annual Conference, held in Houston, Texas, where she spoke on U.S. customs search and seizure, fines, penalties & forfeitures and related issues. She continues a Leading Lawyer in both International Business Law and Immigration Law.

The Firm works in association with its Local Peru Counsel, Dr. Julian Torres, and his Consultores. Dr. Torres is a former Ambassador of Peru, and his last post was as Consul General to Chicago. Our Spanish Counsel, Alejandro de Eguren Santisteban has moved into new offices in Spain. Our Belgian Counsel, Bernard R. Laurent, who previously practiced with our Chicago Office, has most recently been of aid to U.S. creditors under Belgian law. Jose Antonio Rodriguez Marquez continues to provide legal services in Mexico City, D.F., Mexico.


The association of Charles M. Shepherd, an attorney with extensive court and mediation experience, has joined our practice and is available for all types of international disputes in State and Federal Courts, as well as arbitration and mediation. Mr. Shepherd has also passed the customs brokers examination, and supports our clients in our U.S. customs, import/export and trade practice. Mr. Shepherd studied law in the U.S. and abroad in Europe.
